Fattoria La Lecciaia Brunello di Montalcino Riserva 2012
|Region||Italy, Tuscany, Brunello di Montalcino|
|Brand||Fattoria La Lecciaia|
The 2012 Brunello di Montalcino Riserva is evolving quickly and tastes older than its real age. I would not suggest a long drinking window for this near-term Sangiovese. Dried cherry and fig segue to smoke, tar and cured leather. The wine glides quickly over the palate leaving little lasting intensity.
Aromas of tobacco, leather and a hint of black plum lift out of the glass. The solid tightly packed palate offers prune, vanilla and clove alongside assertive tannins. Drink after 2023.
Deep ruby. Aromas of blackberry, herbs and bitter chocolate. Large-scale and brooding, displaying densely packed, textured flavors of black fruits and black tea accented by fresh herbs. Finishes long, featuring broad, tongue-coating tannins that had me scrambling for some bread. I am into austere, refined young wines, but this strikes me as being fruit-challenged and just too tannic. Hopefully a few years in the cellar will help it round out.
