Poggerino Chianti Classico Bugialla Riserva 2014
Very juicy and full of black cherry and blackberry flavors, this red has the flesh and intensity to match the tannic grip. The vibrant structure keeps this focused and drives the long finish. Drink now through 2023. 650 cases made.
I'm not sure how they did it, but the folks at Fattoria Poggerino have successfully harnessed each drop of sunshine in the cloudy 2014 vintage. This is not an easy feat given the higher altitudes and longer ripening cycle found in the Radda in Chianti subzone. The 2014 Chianti Classico Riserva Bugialla shows lots of fruit intensity with dark cherry and plum at its core. This is a mid-weight effort with a lively and bright personality. The wine should flesh out further with more cellaring.
This opens with aromas suggesting prune and star anise. The aromas carry over to palate along with a hint of wild raspberry, chopped herb and bright acidity. It's already approachable, with dusty tannins that provide loose support. Drink through 2019.
