Tenuta La Fuga Brunello di Montalcino 2013
|Region||Italy, Tuscany, Brunello di Montalcino|
|Brand||Tenuta La Fuga|
The Tenuta la Fuga 2013 Brunello di Montalcino shows robust lines and a dark core of black fruit. This is a classic Brunello that delivers the distinctive intensity you should expect of a wine from this very special appellation in Southern Tuscany. Dried cherry and blackberry segue to spice, leather and rosemary sprig. The mouthfeel is velvety, soft and rich.
Forest floor, chopped aromatic herb, blue flower and woodland berry aromas slowly emerge. The firm linear palate evokes pomegranate, sour cherry and culinary spice framed in tight fine-grained tannins and bright acidity. It's still primary at this young stage but promises to bloom into a beauty with more aging.
Aromas and flavors of ripe plum, chocolate, leather and soy are the hallmarks of this broad-shouldered red. Still, there's a fluid feel midpalate and the tannins fall into line on the lingering finish. Best from 2022 through 2035.
Deep ruby. Musky red plum and spicy red cherry compote are complicated by flowers and cocoa powder on the nose and in the mouth. Not in a fat or weighty style but juicy, spicy and intense, showing good lift and definition on the slightly dusty, drying finish. Not especially graceful, but also hard to assess right now. I think this big wine will improve considerably with protracted cellaring.
