Quinta do Portal Colheita 2016
|Brand||Quinta do Portal|
Boysenberry, plum and violet notes meld in this plush, medium- to full-bodied red offering licorice and olive accents and hints of chocolate leading into the minerally finish. Drink now through 2025. 6,500 cases made, 3,500 cases imported.
Dense fruits and a firm texture give this wine both richness and concentration. Its young tannins and balanced acidity both point to a good future for this fine wine. Drink from 2020.
The 2016 Tinto, now in a fat bottle with a typically pretty label from Portal, is a roughly equal blend of Tinta Roriz, Touriga Nacional and Touriga Franca, aged for nine months in a mixture of new and used French oak. Tinta Roriz, which tends to produce more power, has declined in this blend-this is the first time it drops below 50% of the blend. It comes in at 13.5% alcohol. Elegant and fruity, this has a fresh feel and intensity of flavor. I liked the acidity supporting the flavors here too. It could use a bit more concentration, but it is a nice, regular Colheita.
