M. Chapoutier Bila Haut L'Esquerda 2013
|Region||France, Languedoc-Roussillon, Cotes de Roussillon Villages|
From what I consider one of the top terroirs for Syrah in the Roussillon, the 2013 Cotes du Roussillon Villages Lesquerde l'Esquerda comes from the higher-elevation, granite soils located around the village of Lesquerde. Made from 80% Syrah and 20% Grenache and brought up all in concrete tank, it offers up fabulous minerality in its raspberry, blackberry, licorice, violets and crushed-rock-like bouquet. Medium-bodied, supple, elegant and seamless, with impressive purity, freshness and length, drink this terrific Roussillon over the coming 5-7 years.
Juicy with fine-grained tannins, this red has layers of raspberry, dried cherry and exotic spice flavors. Fresh minerality midpalate is flanked by floral and herb accents. Crisp finish. Drink now through 2018. 6,000 cases made.
