The 2017 vintage growing year will be remembered for its April frost damage and very hot and dry climate. This is why the conditions were perfect in terms of plant protection. In September, temperatures dropped appreciably with considerable differences between day and night temperatures. This situation helped especially the polyphenolic profile of the red wine grapes with a medium-long vegetative cycle. 2017 can certainly be remembered as one of the earliest years with healthy and complex grapes.

Sourced from sites within the communes of Serralunga d'Alba, La Morra, and Monforte d'Abla, Monclivio refers to the steep hillsides of Barolo. The aromatics of the 2017 Barolo Monclivio are spiced with ripe red plum, cinnamon, and clove. The palate shows the warmth of the vintage with dried cherry pit, walnut, and balsamic. Drink 2021-2034.

You can't escape that hot-vintage signature in this wine. The Enrico Serafino 2017 Barolo Monclivio offers plummy fruit and blackberry preserves. Those large-in-scope and rather monotone characteristics take away from the more nuanced and graceful character of Nebbiolo. Though Monclivio is a fantasy name, the wine draws its fruit from very real sites in Serralunga d'Alba, Monforte d'Alba and La Morra. This 30,000-bottle release will hit the market at the end of this year.

Aromas of red berries, underbrush and eucalyptus oil form the nose. The straightforward palate starts off with dried cherry, blood orange and tobacco before grainy tannins jump in and create a grippy, astringent finish.
