Gran Selezione Effe'55 is produced from estate vineyards in Castellina in Chianti, in the Casanuova di Pietrafitta area. The medium-textured soil, rich in sand with a good amount of skeleton gives the wines depth, flavor and elegance.
The planting is probably the oldest of all Our vineyards, in fact part of the Gran Selezione Capraia comes from plants from the 1970s with more than 50 years of life.
The yields are very low but the quality of the grapes is really very high.

This offers depth along with an alluring expression of cherry, black currant and violet flavors. Charming and approachable, yet there’s a dense structure underneath as well as vibrant acidity. The long finish reveals rosemary and iron elements. Best from 2024 through 2042. 500 cases made, 250 cases imported.

The 2018 Effe 55, 100% Sangiovese, is another intriguing wine from Capraia. It has plenty of depth, that much is pretty clear. At the same time, I would prefer to see more freshness in the finished wine. Red-fleshed fruit, cinnamon, wild flowers and blood orange linger nicely.
